A New Resolution To Be

You were not meant to be perfect and you could never be if you tried. Perfection was never the goal.

The shadow work is about acceptance of the bad parts of you. Self-acceptance and love require seeing all of you.

The bruises we carry, the scars from battles, are not pretty to look at. Why should they be? Scares are reminders of our strength. What have you been through?

What we’ve been through helps us; they make us useful to ourselves as we learn our power.

“It’s said that there are

Fire-scorched lands

That yield more wheat

Than the best April”

Remember your power. Remember who you are. Remember your past does not define you. Remember every second is an opportunity to love yourself and be better.

Your improvement is your work.

Your care is your work.

Your love is your work.

Your peace is your work.

Your happiness is your work.

Your forgiveness, controversially, is your work.

Do not look at the entirety of the picture if it feels overwhelming.

Take it in parts.

Focus on the smaller parts.

Make a commitment to do one thing at a time to be better than you were.

Make a commitment to rest, then keep going.

Finally, do not take it personally when those around you doubt you. Do not worry too much about their objections. If you can, thank them. Give grace to those who might want to limit you.

Massive stars in the distance seem barely a flicker to those far away.

“The higher we soar, the smaller we appear to those who cannot fly.” Those planted firmly on the ground, away from their dream, away from the seeming weightlessness of the clouds in the sky, they can only do what they know.

Forgive them for not wanting you to fly. They might not know they can, and if they cannot see it for themselves, flying in their eyes might be impossible for everyone else.

My encouragement is not easy; it highlights the importance of continuous grace, kindness, and love for yourself and others. Work to gain and work to maintain.

No shortcuts should be baked into your process, but if you find one and the price is right, you may take it.

Get there flawed… beautifully flawed. It only matters that you get there being a person you are proud to be.

Hold my hand as we get there together proudly standing in our power.

  1. This was beautifully poetic. As I start this new semester believing in my power and ability. These words of affirmation spoke to my soul.
